SSI Extended Range
Ready to push past recreational boundaries?
SSI Extended Range (XR) programs give you the advanced skills, specialized gear knowledge, and technical training to safely dive deeper and stay longer.
Whether you want to master twinsets, dive sidemount, learn decompression procedures, or explore complex wrecks, XR training bridges the gap between recreational diving and true technical exploration.
Extend your limits. Explore the deep.

XR Foundations
The SSI Extended Range Foundations program is ideal for divers who want to refine their skills and improve control in the water before progressing further into technical diving. It is designed as a focused skills workshop, helping you build a strong foundation in buoyancy, trim, propulsion, and equipment handling.
Who it’s for: Recreational divers who want to refine their technique and improve precision, as well as aspiring technical divers looking to build a strong foundational skill set before progressing to more advanced training.
What you’ll learn:
- True mastery of horizontal trim
- Advanced propulsion techniques (frog kicking, helicopter turns, back kicking)
- Valve drills
- Buoyancy control in a technical equipment configuration.
The Environment: Structured confined-water training in a controlled, low-stress setting at depths of less than 12 metres, designed to support precision and skill development.
Course pre-requisites:
Minimum Age: 18
Minimum certification: Advanced Open Water Diver, Enriched Air Nitrox 40%, and 24 logged dives.
Depth Limit: Maintained within your current certification level.
What you earn: SSI Extended Range Foundations Recognition Card.
Course includes 4 confined water sessions.
Course cost: £350 | £100 deposit

Course pre-requisites:
Minimum Age: 18
Minimum certification: Deep Diving, Enriched Air Nitrox 40%, and 24 logged dives.
Max Depth: 40 Meters / 130 Feet
Decompression Limit: Up to 15 minutes of accumulated decompression time.
Gear Configuration: Twinset (Double Tanks) or Sidemount, plus 1 Stage Cylinder.
Course includes 1 confined water dive and 4 open water dives.
Course cost: £1000 | £250 deposit
XR Nitrox
The SSI Extended Range Nitrox course is your first step into decompression diving. It introduces the planning, discipline, and redundant equipment configurations needed to safely manage staged and accelerated decompression. You’ll learn advanced gas planning, oxygen exposure limits, technical gear setup, and team emergency procedures. The course also covers switching to an independent decompression cylinder to help accelerate your ascent safely and efficiently.
Who it’s for: Recreational divers ready to safely push past the no-decompression limit (NDL) using a single decompression stage bottle.
What you’ll learn:
- Complex gas planning
- Calculating oxygen limits
- Managing technical gear setups
- Team emergency procedures (such as dealing with manifold leaks and free-flows)
- Switching to an independent decompression cylinder containing up to 100% oxygen to safely accelerate your ascent.
The Payoff: Safely conduct planned decompression dives down to 40 meters.

XR Trimix
Deep diving on standard air can increase the effects of nitrogen narcosis, affecting judgment and slowing reaction time. The SSI Extended Range Trimix course introduces helium into the breathing mix to reduce these effects, helping divers maintain greater clarity, control, and confidence at depth. By supporting safer and more efficient deep exploration, the course also enhances the overall diving experience.
Who it’s for: The ultimate explorer. Divers who want to target deeper wrecks and walls up to 45 meters while reducing the effects of narcosis.
What you’ll learn:
- The physics and physiology of helium-based mixed gases
- Advanced decompression software planning
- Executing deep gas switches as a team
- Managing a maximum of 25 minutes of accumulated decompression.
The Payoff: The ability to explore to 45 metres with greater clarity, confidence, and the skills to manage decompression safely.
Course pre-requisites:
Minimum Age: 18
Minimum Certification: Extended Range Nitrox (or equivalent) OR 50 logged dives.
Max Depth: 45 Meters / 145 Feet
Decompression Limit: Up to 25 minutes of accumulated decompression time.
Gas Mix: Normoxic Trimix (Helium, Nitrogen, Oxygen) & up to 100% O2 for decompression.
Course includes 1 confined water dive and 6 open water dives.
Course cost: £1200 | £300 deposit
Ultimate Flexibility
Our SSI Extended Range Courses are flexible and can be carried out at home in the UK, or be combined with a dream holiday and completed in Cyprus or Egypt.
Please Note for Overseas Training: Course pricing varies depending on your chosen location to account for local logistics, boat fees, and gas supplies. For all training completed abroad, students are responsible for booking their own flights and accommodation, giving you total flexibility to travel your way.
